So I’ve written on prior occasions about how I felt like I got a really great shake this year with my TA group (non-law students: that’d be my group of 1L legal writing students). I just thought they were quite decent, funny, hard-working folks, and my year as a TA has gone quite well as a result.
But today, just in case there was any doubt about how much they rock, my TA students suprised me at the end of our last TA group meeting with a card, and a gift card to Panera.
It was a way to say thank you, they said, for my help all year long, and for “putting up with all their stuff” (said with tongue-in-cheek, I’m sure). I told them I tried all year to be a real hardass, and now here they were, making me nearly get all teary over such a nice gesture. They all laughed, and I was thinking, “No, seriously, I’m going to get teary and emotional, and then you’ll figure out that I’m only human, and I try so hard to hide that.”
But seriously, I sat at Panera this afternoon, enjoying their mucho delicioso Fuji apple chicken salad, I just kept thinking, “Geez, my TA students were a good group.”
And in case you’re thinking, “Sure, they did that because they knew a good bribe for you involved a gift card to somewhere with great coffee and salads,” I reassure you–I have positively no say in their grades. And moreover, they actually know that, and were still that kind.
And that, my friends, is why My TA Students Are Cooler Than Your TA Students.
Thanks, Kelly, Andrew, David, Sarah, Tony, Cydni, and Nick. You have no idea how much you made my day.

I had my last meeting today soon. I was a little sad as well. Who knew?
