My new house in photos

by Marissa on 16 April 2006

Welcome to my new house! Come along, and I’ll take you on a photo tour of the new abode…

We begin, of course, with a shot of the front of the house and nicely landscaped front yard.

“Hello, and welcome to my home!”

The front, from a slightly different angle

As we start to move around the side of the house, we get a look at the lovely blue spruce growing alongside the house. The corner of the house next to which we’re standing here is where the library/sitting room is located.
Continuing around the side of the house to the back, we can look inside the extra-large windows of the living room, and we can see my family members inside… just as it should be!

Now we’re standing in the backyard, basically right at the property line. The wooden arch in the garden is not staying; the husband-Seller made that as a gift for the wife-Seller, so naturally, she wants to take that with her.

This is the back patio, and the windows look into the living room. You can kind of see the vaulted cathedral ceilings, and you can see the fireplace straight ahead. The door on the right leads into the breakfast nook/kitchen area. The door on the left (only 1/2 visible) leads into the master bedroom. There is a retractable awning affixed to the house that extends over the majority of the patio (you can see it there above the windows and door).
Walking across the backyard to the opposite side of the house from where we previously stopped to admire the blue spruce, we find the rare Litigatious Lawstudentus growing amongst the shrubbery.

I’m not sure yet what kind of tree this actually is, but I’ve named it The Purple Tree. I’m pretty sure that is its actual name. If you look closely at the ground just to the left of the garage, you can see what appear to be round divets in the yard. Those aren’t actually just indentations–those are round stone steps that lead from the service door in the garage through the landscaping behind The Purple Tree, and around to the front of the garage.
My garage–it is a 2 car garage “extended.” It is just a hair smaller than a 2 1/2 car garage. And in the driveway we see what appears to be the front of a vehicle…

…and indeed, it appears my new property has already been invaded by a roving band of gypsies. Or that might be my Mums and my grandparents. Probably the latter.

Good gracious–it’s the elusive Apatheticus Neargraduaticus! It appears to be preparing to feed on The Purple Tree. I’ll need to spray for that.

After making a full lap around the house, Dad and I snap a self-portrait.

Having walked around the oustide of the house, we’ll now head inside; once insde, we turn around and see the front door through which we just entered.

Looking at the photo above, if we were to walk into the room that’s to the left of the front door, we would wind up in the library/sitting room. This is the front window in that room, with its bench seat.

A closer look at the unique ceiling above the library front window and its light.

Walking directly across the hall from the library, we stroll into the Office. It, like the library, has a nice bench seat at its window.

Walking out of the Office and across the hall, we find ourselves at the half bath (if you’re facing the library, this is just to your left).

If we were to continue walking further into the house, the Master Bedroom would be on our right. However, we somehow managed to not get any photos of the Master Bedroom. That may be because I was immediately enchanted by the large walk-in closet, pictured below. It’s actually about 3 times larger than it looks in this photo. I swear, I think it’s about 3/4 the size of my current bedroom. LOVE IT.

I was also impressed by the master bathroom–this part of the master bath has two sinks in it, one on each side of the room, and each with a large mirror above it. As you stand in between the two mirrors, it has a very “I’m in a psychadelic Queen music video” effect. I stated something to that effect to my family, and they immediately nicknamed the room “The Queen Room.” [Um, I don't know why I look like that in the photo below. Grandpa says he thinks I'm "catching flies." I have no better reason than that for my rather dumbfounded expression.]

A closer look at one of the two sinks in The Queen Room.

Ooooh, ahhhh! We observe the sure-to-be-relaxing sunken tub in the master bathroom, complete with jets to soothe away those lawyer-related stresses. The shower is basically across from the tub, kind of behind where we’re standing in this photograph.

This is a panoramic collage to show the living room and kitchen. Of course, because it’s pieced together from other photos, it isn’t precisely to-scale, but it gives some idea of the layout. Bev, the Realtor (dressed in the black slacks & top) is standing just outside of the Master Bedroom. I am skipping through my kitchen. (No, seriously. I think actually, literally skipped through there at least once. I was really excited.)

This is another pieced-together panoramic shot. We can see the doorway to the Master Bedroom, and I’m doing a Vanna White impression as I show off my new and spacious pantry.
I have to pause for a photo beside the fireplace, to let my brother Alex know that his #1 living space requirement is met–no living place should be without a fireplace! It is currently set up for gas logs, but it has a full working chimney, so it could be converted to wood-burning.

I stroll through the kitchen, on our way to the other side of the house.
After we mosey through the kitchen and reach the hallway, if we turn around, we can see the breakfast nook and the large living room windows.

Dad and I take the opportunity for a self-portrait shot by the kitchen, while my Uncle Lamont checks out the cabinetry.

A panoramic of the kitchen area

Now, if we’d turn back around (so our backs are to the kitchen), we’d be standing in a hallway. We would turn right and proceed along the hallway, and turn right again, and this is what we’d see: the guest bedroom and guest bathroom.

This is the guest bedroom. As we look through the doorway, we can see another room ahead of us–that is the workout room.

Here is a shot of the guest bathroom.

This is the workout room.

Remember walking down the hallway, and we turned right to take a look at the guest rooms? Well, if we had turned left instead, we would wind up facing the door that leads out to the garage, and the utility room would be on our left. The photo below shows said utility room (I will be purchasing a washer & dryer to go below those cabinets).

Here is the garage. That door leads into the hall where we were just standing when we were looking at the utility room. What appears to be a long white tube in the upper left corner of this photo is actually a large blind; it can be unrolled to “hide” anything being stored in the garage, so that the garage can be used for entertaining.

And finally, back outside, Daddio & I do yet another self-portrait shot by the gorgeous Purple Tree.

So… when are you all visiting?!
