Happy Birthdays, Good Friends, & Family Update

Michael “The Midnight Ficus” Ruff and Katie “Cosmo” Peterson both celebrate their birthdays this week.

Mike turned 28 (yay, 28!!! That is a great number!) yesterday, and Katie becomes the last of our group of 4 to hit the big 2-5 on January 24th. Then, on the 29th, Mums has a birthday. January is a good month.

This summer will also bring happy birthdays for a friend of mine… as I remain unsure how relatively public the news is, I leave it at that, with heartiest of congratulations.

As we celebrated Mike’s birthday last night, with special wishes from one Ms. Lynda Carter (no, seriously), Mike commented that it was really nice to celebrate with friends. He’s right; it is. As I look at the lovely plant he gave me (which I swear I’m going to try very hard not to kill!!), and I think about how darn much fun I had last night, I’m reminded all over again how happy I am to have the friends that I do.

(Oh–and Katie prepared yet another AMAZING meal last night for the celebration. Seriously, is there anything that she can’t cook or bake to perfection? I sincerely doubt it. Manicotti and meatballs, ceasar salad & homemade croutons, coconut cream cake with homemade icing… kudos, Katie. So very many kudos.)

I have said a great deal about my choice of law schools, and my opinions remain strong and mixed. However, I know that I chose correctly–not just because I wound up with the job I love and wanted, but because I wound up with the friends I did.

Returning to classes yesterday, I was met with so many well wishes from so many people, each asking (and genuinely caring) about how my grandpa was doing, how I was doing, how my family was doing, etc. I had no trouble getting notes from folks for the classes I missed. I am a fortunate gal with very good friends.

FAMILY UPDATE:
I spoke with Grandpa today, and he sounds so good. The doctors continue to give him great reports on his recovery; everything is going as smoothly as we could possibly hope. I’m so pleased. His voice sounds good, and my folks tell me that his color is great too. He says the nurses there (he’s at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne) are great, and he’s been very pleased with the care he’s received. He (and my family) all say they’re just wonderful, the nurses and the doctors.

So, things on the family front are going very well. All those well wishes and good thoughts from everyone seem to be doin’ the trick! :-)

So, here’s to good friends, happy birthdays, and a continued smooth and speedy recovery for my Grandpa…

Happy Saturday.
