Breakin’: Winter Break Boogaloo

My finals came to a screeching and welcome halt last Thursday afternoon. I remained in Valpo on Friday so I could celebrate the holidays (“Happy Chrismahanakwanzakah, N8y!”) with Nathan, Katie, and Mike. We had our little holiday pizza party & gift exchange on Friday evening, and of course, it was so much fun. Highlights include the brutal Nerf dart-gun war between N8 and The Ficus, the introduction of Vanilla Cosmopetersons, a simply awesome pair of pink sparkly dangly earrings and black with sparklies handbag from N8′s folks, a really sweet and beautiful amethyst friendship bracelet from K8ie, an iPod mini-purse! from N8, N8 & Mike’s amusement at being able to make their nerf darts stick to the ceiling, sugar cookies with “magic” decals, and, of course, K8ie’s unique trick for simultaneously decorating a bathroom & making it smell like vanilla bean–all within about 2 seconds.

Now I’m home at my folks’ house for the holiday break. I’ve spent several evenings visting with Grandpa & Grandma, and their adorable (and hyperactive) little puppy Dottie. I did some additional Christmas shopping, and I worked on my law review Note. I’ve been quite content.

I’m using Dad’s computer right now, as my laptop is having “issues” once again. However, after a chat with the friendly folks at Dell’s Customer Service (I’m not being snarky either; I’ve had very good experiences with them overall) on Sunday, I am hoping to get a call from the computer tech guy today to set up an appointment for him to come out and replace my palmrest/touchpad part of the ‘puter so hopefully there will be no further malfunction. Thank goodness Daddio got the extended warranty on that computer! For two years, there were no problems at all, and then after about 2.5 years, I’ve had to use the warranty service several times. What can I say; that computer goes everywhere with me all the time, so it’s had some hard (and very constant!) use.

And I still have not sent out my holiday cards yet, except for handing them out to my favorite professors at school. This is the latest I’ve ever been with cards. I’m a card slacker. Apologies.

I’m off to get showered, throw on my law review uniform (flannel PJ pants and my uber-comfy law review sweatshirt), and leap into some Contribution, Introduction and Conclusion for La Note de la Notes. :-)

(Oh, and I know I’m on break, because I’m having a horrible time remembering what day of the week it is, and because I cannot remember for life of me the date. That kind of obliviousness is so sweet, since I realize how very, very finite it is!)

Finally, K8y: Your homemade toffee? EXQUISITE. I’d like to say that some of it will reach Christmas Day, but…. yeah, with Mums, Dad and I all eating it each day, there’s no way!
And Mahrya: Your baklava? RAVE REVIEWS. My grandparents and my dad have been relishing every bite, and have complimented your baking skill numerous times. Grandma even said that she had some baklava at one of her favorite restaurants, and “it wasn’t nearly as good” as the baklava you made.
So thank you, thank you, thank you! to K8y & Mahrya for sharing your incredible baking talents with me and with my family. You are much appreciated!
