Blog Your Way To A J.D.

by Marissa on 2 November 2005

One of the hottest trends right now is Entertainment Blogging. These are, just like it sounds, blogs created by people even more obsessed with the latest gossip, juice and hearsay about those who flit around in the entertainosphere of life: from the A-List (greetings, Brad and Angelina) to the D-List and below (aloha, reality TV stars), these bloggers have all the info. And then some.

Naturally, I was drawn into this patch of the blogosphere immediately; already being an US Weekly and People Magazine addict, not to mention nearly being attached via IV to my Replay and the reality programs it records for me, entertainment blogs were just the next step. Like marijuana to crack. (Or, more realistically, marijuana to the cheetos aisle. Well, hello, Britney Spears! But I digress.)

More than once, I have read the authors of these entertainment blogs muse on the fact that it seems the bulk of their readers (or at least the bulk of the readers who go the extra mile and comment on the blog, email the author, etc.) are–ready for this?–law students. The blog authors typically comment on this with some mixture of wonder and amusement. Apparently, it is not widely know that in law schools all across the country, the most prevalent form of learning is websurfing in class, courtesy of schools’ wireless technology.

(Yeah, yeah, professors, websurfing in class is soooo terrible and soooo detrimentalto learning. My 3.8 GPA and high-paying job beg to differ. On that topic, I would just like to point out for the record that the top 3 students in my law school class are not only laptop users, but avid websurfers. And we can still answer whatever question you throw at us during class. It’s called multitasking, and yes, I do do that at work, for your information, Mr. High And Mighty [And Out Of Touch] Professor. Frankly, in this day and age, someone who cannot pay attention to a speaker and websurf or email at the sametime is sorely lacking a skill that is darn near required in today’s technologically-based workplace. What do you think everyone is doing at those firm-wide meetings?! Look into it, and thank me later.)

So, in honor of the fact that a legion of J.D.s-2-B are blogging their little hearts out in law school classrooms across the country, I have added to the sidebar of my own blog a list of some of the best entertainment blogs available. Check ‘er out.

Blog away, my fellow future lawyers. Blog away. How much can profs say as long as your grades remain higher than Anna Nicole Smith at awards shows?

This is too funny. All of the blogs I follow with the exception of one are written by law students. I am also an entertainment addict. I have dinner every night at 6:00 or 6:30 to catch either E! News or Entertainment Tonight. For a fun parody of an entertainment blog, check out The Onion’s very own Jackie Harvey at http://www.theonion.com/content/harvey/blog.

And students that state that web surfing during class is “unprofessional” are just jealous that they cannot multitask! :)
