This was fascinating. I'm a consultant, and I've hired helpers/vendors/services/etc. a'plenty, and all through your opening I was IDing with the results camp, duh! I do want all that, I am focused on results, I don't need any kind of emotional hand-holding whatsoever. I'm in business, you're in business, we're smart and talented, we know what we're doing and just need to do it...
But then I read what you sorted into the reassurance camp and saw myself again! "Of course" I want to know you understand the email, "of course" I expect updates and questions of clarification, "of course" etc. HA!
Oh my oh my... your post really is smart and useful, what I'd think they'd call a tentpole post (that's what we'd call it in my biz!) A post that is so vital, so useful, so well-written and central to the topic, tat it becomes an authority on the subject. This post should get subbed to those article services MB, this is good stuff...
But back to ME --
Uh, thanks for continuing the post and enlightening me that my output style it probably tied to my expectation of others, and the conundrum that I'm a results-oriented girl with an overly reassuring nature.
I shouldn't read smart stuff before bed, now my brain will never turn off this rubick's cube of a post ~ !
Many thanks for your smart work here -- (and adorable photo in your gravatar -- just grand.)
~GirlPie
PS: Good thought Pace -- but I'm a problem solver who needs to be heard so the problem I tell how to solve gets the solution acted on... where does that leave me? A foot in both camps? (No personal pun intended!)

I agree, Pace. Each camp has a different focus when they're communicating. There's actually another post in the works about communication within and between the camps, and that idea about solving the problem versus wanting to feel heard is central!

Marissa,

This is really interesting! I bet it aligns with the person's main communication style, too. I'd expect that Results Campers are communication problem solvers, and Reassurance Campers focus on wanting to feel heard.
